MADISON TOWNSHIP- After a 77-67 loss to Olentangy last Saturday evening, the Madison boy's basketball team will jump into conference play on Friday evening at home when they host the 2-0 Mt.Vernon Yellowjackets, then travel to 0-1 Norwalk on Saturday evening in non-league play. On the opener with Olentangy, head coach Tim Mergel saw his team battle back from a 16 point deficit.

"Olentangy came out and they have a lot of guys returning and it showed they hit nine threes in the first half a couple had a hand in the face which is impressive and they moved the ball well.  We were down 16 but came back to get within one with two possessions to take the lead but came up empty but I was proud of the effort."

"Our first priority was to get defensive stops and get into an offensive flow," said sophomore guard-forward Tyler Tackett.  As we were doing our defensive work we were able to get offensive points."

"We realized once the game kinda came to us in the second half that we had the firepower to get back in when things aren't going as well as we would want," said Mergel.  We have the ability to get back in some ball games.  Now we have to show we can get over the top."

The Rams open OCC play on Friday at home taking on the Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets Friday who Mergel s described as a veteran bunch.  "They got a lot of guys back.  I think they have nine seniors on their roster.  They are the type of team that likes to control the pace.  First game here last year they controlled the pace and took it to us.  At their place, we speed the pace up and had them down double digits and they came back on us and won it in overtime.  The thing is they are deep and they are a steady bunch."

Asked what he notices and Mt.Vernon on film, Madison junior guard De'Zion Taylor says, "Their effort.  Their effort is good and they bring it to the table every night."

The Rams fell twice to Mt. Vernon a season ago by scores of 60-53 and 62-51.
